About

I'm Loïc Gremaud. Since 2026, I'm the technical lead of a network automation team. I build Python services and the tools around them.

Why this blog

For years, I kept private notes for myself. Now I share what I learn beyond my team, from enterprise-grade apps at work and from my side projects. Mostly Python services, from the first prototype to production.

My path

I started as an IT apprentice in 2007, building websites in PHP for fun. I first used Python in engineering school in 2012 and never stopped. My bachelor's degree is in telecommunication engineering, focused on networks and security. In 2025, I completed a CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies) in Software Engineering, Microservices and Operations.

I worked first as a system engineer at a small IT company, serving law firms, notaries and real estate agencies. Then I consulted on networks and security for small and large companies across Switzerland. Whatever the title, I was a builder and an architect. I like to understand how the engine works inside, then build the frameworks and low-level tools others build on.

In 2021, I joined a large Swiss public transport company. I automated the rollout of about 15,000 switch ports in Python, because the vendor's tool could not finish in time.

With a software architect, I then led the build of a network orchestrator almost from scratch. The first version was Python microservices on TM Forum Open APIs, running on Kubernetes. Today it runs on an industry-standard tool, but we still use Python for some adapters.

Building a Python app that scales the cloud-native way is hard. Java teams have mature tools for this, like Spring Boot and Resilience4j. For network automation, I prefer Python, but it lacked that layer. So I wrote grelmicro, an open-source library that brings these patterns to Python services that scale horizontally.

Opinions here are my own, not my employer's.
